3 Ways to Stress Less in the Kitchen in 2019

If your 2019 New Year’s resolution is anywhere in the realm of “stressing less,” then you’re not alone! We’re here to help—starting in the kitchen!

The new year is here! Are you ready to rock your 2019 dinner parties, birthday bashes, and everything in between? Whether you’re meal prepping, getting lunches ready for the kids, trying out that tasty recipe that you saw online, or feeding an entire dinner party, wouldn’t it be nice if your kitchen could help ease some of the stress? We’ve gathered a few things from Control4 that can help reduce the stress the kitchen brings for 2019.

Voice assistants, such as the Amazon Alexa family, make it easy to stay on task while you handle something else simultaneously. Just ask Alexa to start a timer, play a song, ask for measuring comparisons, lower the thermostat, and so much more all while you continue your current task. Look at that, you never even had to look up from the cutting board, which you should never do anyway to ensure you keep all of your digits in tact! But that’s not all; Amazon Alexa devices are capable of so much more than just setting timers when incorporated into a smart home system. Commands like “Alexa, turn on cooking” can simultaneously bring up the kitchen lights to 100%, turn the TV on to Food Network or start up your favorite playlist on the speakers in the kitchen, and turn the thermostat down to make your cooking routine as easy as pie.

Connected appliances, such as stoves, refrigerators, slow cookers, etc. are time-savers, and sometimes sanity-savers! We can’t be the only ones that have left the grocery list sitting on the counter, only to realize it while parking at the grocery store. Enter smart refrigerators. With futuristic features like cameras so you can actually look inside your fridge while you’re at the store, screens so you can create and add to shopping lists every time you open the refrigerator, and remote access to be able to send those lists directly to your phone, you’ll never have to hand-write a list again. And with connected stoves, multitasking has never been easier. Stepping away to check more off of your to-do list while something simmers used to be a dangerous game. But now you can just tell the app to turn the temperature down while you’re in the other room! Not today stove-top disasters, not today.

Probably one of the last things you’re thinking about while you’re cooking is having a touch screen in the kitchen. But trust us, once you’ve experienced the ease of touch screens, you can’t live without them…or, at least, you won’t want to live without them! Notify the entire house that it’s time for dinner, video chat with your partner while they’re still at the store, communicate with a visitor at the door, all without putting that spatula down. A CONTROL4 TOUCH SCREEN with the Intercom Anywhere app in the kitchen works as a video chat device, an intercom system, and a smart doorbell station. This means distractions, like someone at the door or the kids not coming down when you’ve called, take up less of your time so you can focus on that gorgeous meal you’ve been working so hard on.

August 29 at #KBtribechat – Lighting Trends

A design discussion

Sponsored and Hosted by Rev-A-Shelf

Light bulb with brain inside the hands of the businessman.

Household technology is undergoing a transformation that’s changing the way we think about our daily routines. More specifically, we want to talk about the impact lighting has on our home and even health.

Today’s progressive lighting schemes aren’t about lights that go on and off; they’re about being partners in enhancing our lifestyle.

Our KBtribechat Questions:

1.)  There has been an increase in studies linking lighting and health. Have you seen an increase in demand for human-centric lighting? This is lighting that can benefit the biological, emotional, health or well-being of people.

2.)  What type of smart lighting technology (Bluetooth Smart, Z-Wave, ZigBee) are your customers asking for and how comfortable are you in explaining their various options?

3.) The retro look keeps nudging its way into lighting design. What have you been seeing lately? Share pictures!

4.) Integrated LED lighting in, above and below cabinets and drawers is one of the hottest kitchen trends. Are you seeing new or innovative places homeowners are installing lighting?

5.) Bigger is better. Homeowners are falling in love with bigger fixtures to create a “WOW” factor over an island, dining table, etc. Are you adding these to your designs?

6.) With the demand for LED growing, how many of you are comfortable with and actively specify cabinet lighting vs. leaving it to the electrician?

7.) What areas in kitchen and bath do you feel there is a lack of lighting options?

8.) Are you loving the trend of backlighting countertops? Tell us what you think, and share pictures of some of your favorites!

August 15 at #KBtribechat – Peace of Mind Solutions for Health

A kitchen design discussion

Hosted by Toni Sabatino

ToniIMG_1627

“Wellness” is a term that you hear quite often lately. Peace of mind
adds to good health. What can we do with kitchen design to promote a
sense of well being? Some of my thoughts are good ventilation,
thoughtful storage and a simplicity of materials for low VOC and easy
clean. More thinking takes it a step further with wellness being related
to how we eat and how that relates to appliances and food prep. I would
like to see your thoughts around this trend of wellness in the home.

ToniIMG_1628

My KBtribechat questions:

What kind of design image does the term wellness inspire in the kitchen?
Share photos

How does the design of the kitchen ease the burden of preparing fresh
food? Do you find usefulness in things like sinks with accessories such
as cutting boards and colanders and herb savers in the frig?

Are clients interested learning about current technologies? I install
more steam ovens and very few microwaves as the nutritional value of the
food is much better. Do you find yourself educating your clients about
benefits of steam cooking for creating healthier meals? Induction
cooking for cleaner air?

I think lighting has a major effect on our sense of well being. Please
share any kitchen related lighting ideas, especially for those urban
spaces that limited natural light.

Do you find yourself looking for the healthiest choices in materials?
Are you considering the VOC emissions when determining the performance
of a product? What are some of your favorite products when thinking
about “healthy kitchens” and why?

Do you think of living in place or aging in place concepts when you
think of wellness? What design features and specialty appliances, tech
or gadgets do you find work best for people of any ability?

Less clutter generally creates more peace of mind. Show your best
storage solutions for ease of use.

Technology that counts your steps, calories and other health relates
features is everywhere. How do you say tech playing a role in the
kitchen?
