The Vision House at Epcot

 

Join guest host, Mark Johnson FAIA  on Wednesday, February 8, 2012,  for #kbtribechat LIVE from the Epcot Theme Park at Walt Disney World in Orlando.  We’ll be taking a look at the The VISION House® in INNOVENTIONS project site, the sustainable products being used, and learning more about this exciting demonstration home opening on Earth Day, 2012. Who knows, maybe we’ll meet a Disney Imagineer along the way?


The VISION House® in INNOVENTIONS at Epcot® is a ground-breaking green show home exhibit presented by Green Builder Media® in collaboration with Walt Disney Imagineering. This experiential exhibit in the heart of Epcot® highlights the very best in green residential design and sustainable living. Visitors will leave with a greater understanding of green design, technology, and products as well as a host of sustainable living ideas that they can incorporate in their lives the minute they get home from vacation. Sponsors for this exciting project include Trane and Schlage (Ingersoll Rand brands), Boral, Panasonic, Armstrong, Kohler, Siemens and GM.

Mark Johnson – FAIA|AIBD|AIBD

Mark Johnson is a recognized leader in the building products and design industry for his career as a marketer/architect/educator/speaker.  He is a FAIA architect, AIBD Professional Building Designer, and NKBA Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD).  In 2002, Mark was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows in recognition of his service to the profession and pioneering work in AIA continuing education.  He holds both a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and MBA degree from Washington University in St. Louis, as well as a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from UCLA.

Formerly, Mark worked for Masco Cabinetry, Whirlpool Corporation and CertainTeed Corporation, where he led efforts to partner with the design and building industry by creating educational, informational, and experiential resources for design professionals.  He has collaborated with industry leaders like Google, Apple and McGraw-Hill to bring Web 3.0 tools and continuing education to the design profession.  He writes and speaks internationally on subjects ranging from 3D technology, social/virtual media and sustainable design, to design trends that impact residential architecture.  In 2010, Mark was named a “Top 100 Design Tweeter” for his work in social media and currently has over 4,600 Twitter followers, largely from the design community.

Mark practiced architecture on the West Coast for many years and worked for several award-winning firms, most notably AIA Gold Medallist, Charles Moore’s office, Moore Ruble Yudell, recipient of the 2006 AIA National Firm Award.  He is the recipient of several design and industry awards over 25 years and is a three-time winner of the AIA Continuing Education System Award for Excellence.  He describes his career as one of bridge-builder between architects, designers, and the building products industry.
