As of this year, Gen Z represents 40% of U.S. consumers and is rapidly entering the workforce. Born between 1997 and 2012, Gen Zers are challenging marketplaces and workplaces—in new, different ways than Millennials have.

Join us for a practical chat led by digital marketer Irene Williams and longtime contributor to our industry. After years managing social media and digital marketing for herself and her agency’s clients, Irene has gained lots of knowledge and know-how about connecting and communicating with cross-generational audiences. We all look forward to living a long life. Not many of us look forward to growing old. For those of us in our 50’s and 60’s, we being noticing small changes in our bodies and mind. Activities and tasks that were simple and easy, even enjoyable, become annoying, too much, tiring and difficult to perform. The risk is home ownership begins to become a burden instead of a pleasure.

1.) In general terms, what are the biggest challenges will a client have to address who chooses to live/age in place into their later years?

2.) Functionality in the kitchen is a major aging/living challenge. How can we minimize bending, reaching, stooping, even getting burnt or scalded as we plan a kitchen?

3.) Functionality in the bathroom is a major aging/living challenge. How can we minimize bending, reaching, stooping, slipping, even getting scalded as we plan a bathroom?

4.) Slipping and falling is the leading cause of injury or death among older adults. What flooring solutions in the kitchen and bath can we provide that will help minimize this risk?

5.) As we age, our eyesight changes. Small print becomes impossible to read, as does that menu in the candle lit restaurant. What lighting solutions will make life easier for someone to use the kitchen or bathroom?

6.) Technology offers the potential of being a great enabler in four categories for those who opt for a living/aging in place lifestyle. Communication/engagement, Health and Wellness, Learning/Contribution and Safety/Security. How can it help? What are the risks?

Eric Schimelpfenig, AKBD is the founder of SketchThis.net.  Eric has utilized 3D technology throughout his career.  He has taken pencil and paper operations and converted them to 3D, worked with Google on Sketchup’s development, created 3D content for companies large and small, and taught Sketchup to countless students all over the country.

SketchThis also launched a kitchen design plugin for Sketchup.  This plugin is a cloud service that plugs directly into Sketchup and provides a rich catalog of cabinetry and interior components for designers to design even faster with Sketchup.  What use to take hours takes minutes now with this plugin.

He is also an active columnist in Kitchen & Bath Design News, is often hired to teach Sketchup  and speak on emerging technologies for the design field.  He is currently touring the country on a three year teaching tour with Ellen Cheever and Kitchen & Bath Design News.

Eric also runs the social media efforts for  Kesseböhmer (Branded Clever Storage) in the United States, promoting the brand on many different social media platforms.
