Jamie Gold, CKD, CAPS, MCCWC is a Wellness Design Consultant, Certified Kitchen Designer, Certified Aging in Place Specialist and Mayo Clinic Certified Wellness Coach. She is also the author of three books on design and remodeling, including her latest, Wellness by Design: A Room-by-Room Guide to Optimizing Your Home for Health, Fitness and Happiness, (Simon & Schuster/Tiller Press, September 2020).

Jamies professional focus is the link between healthy living and healthy home spaces. She consults for homeowners and the homebuilding industry on this topic, and is a popular speaker at trade shows around the country. This was one of the reasons for Jamie’s inclusion in a 2017 industry top 50 Innovators list and being named 2020 Wellness Influencer in another.

Jamie’s first book, New Kitchen Ideas That Work, published in 2012 by Taunton Press. Her second Taunton book, New Bathroom Idea Book, published in 2017. Both shared ideas about wellness and functionality, as well as style. An avid trend watcher, Jamie also writes the monthly Trend Spotting section for Kitchen & Bath Design News and is a regular contributor to Forbes.com on wellness design. Her articles have appeared in Fine Homebuilding, HuffPost, BobVila.com, Houzz and numerous other publications. Her design blog, Gold Notes: Nuggets from the World of Residential Design, has been posting online at her website since 2008.

In addition to writing and consulting on residential design projects, Jamie creates seminars and webinars for media, trade and consumer audiences, and consults on product development and trends for housing industry corporations and financial analysts.

Her speaking credits include the official National Kitchen & Bath Association Chapter Presenters roster and panels at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show and Dwell on Design.

He has published countless articles and produced/hosted his own talk radio show. From design, to body language, to strategic planning, he is an energetic public speaker and knowledgeable housing and business consultant.

Now, with his colleague and former Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) student, Louie Delaware, they have pioneered education and standardized assessments for home accessibility and safety.

Active in several trade associations. Louie is passionate about helping people make their homes as safe as possible. His knack for being able to describe home safety issues in easy-to-understand terms comes after 22 years in the field of advanced research and development for medical and analytical devices. He has been awarded many different patents and received the prestigious international R&D 100 award for Advanced Technologies. In 2004, he founded US Safety Pros, LLC, which specializes in childproofing, radon testing and mitigation, home accessibility and many other home safety services.

A licensed general contractor, Louie has childproofed more than 3,800 homes and helped countless others mitigate radon, improve family safety, and makes homes easier to negotiate and use for older adults and physically challenged individuals. A father of two children, Louie has first-hand experience when it comes to what works (and what doesn’t) in home safety. He also has older parents who lived in the same home for nearly 50 years.

Louie is a national safety expert for TV news and radio programs, along with many newspapers (including USA Today®), where he is known as The Home Safety Guru®. He is also a Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Kitchen + Bath Business Magazine.

3. What LIP products or design solutions do you wish your clients wouldn’t object to? And how do you overcome those objections?

4. Do you automatically incorporate LIP/Adaptable Design into your projects? If yes, how?  If no, why not? What is holding you back from doing so?
