A message from Lisa M. Smith:
Hello KBtribechat friends,
I’m about to embark on The Mary Grace Tour, partially with the purpose of bringing awareness to the reality of Domestic Violence and to raise money for ACT, the Abuse, Counseling and Treatment, Inc, center in Lee County Florida.
Eighteen years ago this week my mother, Mary Grace, was murdered by her then husband in a domestic violence incident. The Mary Grace Tour is a recreation of a trip she took before I was born the details of which I found in her travel journal amongst her belongings. Domestic violence ended our dream of recreating this trip together.
ACT is the agency / 24-hr crisis hotline to whom which my mother made her last phone call on that fateful April evening.
Those of you who know me also know I never ask anyone for anything, as a kid I couldn’t ask people to buy a Girl Scout cookie. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone here when I ask you to support my efforts to raise over $10,000 for ACT.
Through Crowdrise, I’ve created a webpage for my campaign, The Mary Grace Tour, where anyone can make a tax deductible donation securely online. The donations are paid directly to ACT via Crowdrise, nothing comes to or goes through me, I’m just a voice, and hopefully a loud one. I’m funding my trip on my own.
Some people run for charity, I travel. I’ll be covering 9,859 miles, just under 10,000 miles in over 15 days. Any amount you can donate to this campaign would be greatly appreciated but here are some fun ideas:
1/2¢ per mile or $49.30
$5 per day or $75
1¢ per mile or $98.59
$10 per day or $150
5¢ per mile or $492.95
What your money can buy at ACT:
$100 Pays for 10 hours of counseling for a victim
$1,500 Pays the electric bill for one month for the shelter
$5,000 Pays for the 24-hour hotline for one year
Thank you for reading this. I’ve made one more person aware of just how close domestic violence is. If enough of you help, I’ll reach my goal of raising $10,000 for ACT.
Thank you!
