Design Rules!

Is the work triangle still relevant?

Even the novice has heard of the work triangle in connection with kitchen design.  It’s the imaginary line between the sink, range and refrigerator. These items need to be thoughtfully placed for efficient use of the space.

Is the work triangle only relevant for small kitchens?

Can we throw out the rule if an island is involved?

Blue is not a good color for the kitchen!

Do you agree with this statement?

Color “psychology” has taught us that not only is blue an appetite suppressant but  food does not look good against it. Does this translate to the kitchen?

Do you have pictures that prove this wrong?

Bathroom sink cabinets should be 34″ high.

This has long been a standard but is changing.  Tall clients often want taller counter heights in their bathrooms but is this a good idea?

We will be discussing these “rules” and more on Wednesday, May 15, 2013.  Join our Twitter discussion by adding #kbtribechat to your tweets between two and three pm eastern time. We look forward to your input!

October 26, 2011 Topic: Rethinking the Bathroom

“Rethinking the Bathroom” is inspired by the 6th annual Bathroom Blogfest. “Climbing Out” is the theme of the blogfest, which brings together bloggers from around the globe to write about the importance of bathrooms in the customer experience. Their posts come from a wide range of perspectives that include sociology, marketing, research, psychology, environmental, customer experience, and design. The 2011 theme reacts to unimaginative inward thinking and dismal global news, while celebrating breakthrough challenges such as Bill Gates’ challenge to rethink the toilet. It challenges participants to ‘climb out’ and embrace collaborative problem-thinking while focusing on bathrooms and bathroom experiences where creativity and innovation break down before reaching the stall door. [See http://uxmag.com/articles/its-time-to-climb-out-and-rethink-the-user-experience for additional perspective].

Hosted by Christine B. [C.B.] Whittemore and Professor Toilet, we invite #KBTribeChat participants to lend their expertise to brainstorm ideas for reinventing the bathroom experience in homes and buildings while considering intuitive, user-focused design solutions and collaborative problem-solving.
